How Mobile Apps Are Revolutionising Our Daily Lives |

No one would argue against just how drastically mobile apps have changed our daily lives. Today, just a few taps on our smartphone's display can have food delivered, our banking done, have a ride summoned or even peek into a whole new world inside AR all thanks to apps. As of this year, more than 2.5 billion people across the globe have access to smartphones and apps, making them practically ubiquitous. That said, just about everyone today connects with their friends through apps, works within apps, socialises inside of apps and even dates inside apps - fundamentally changing how we live our everyday life. Below we'll take a brief look into a few of the ways mobile apps are revolutionising our daily lives. Never-ending Digital CommunicationWith the rise of social media and subsequent apps, staying in contact with friends, family and strangers is more effortless and more constant than ever. We've reached the point where digital visual communication such as FaceTime and Snapchat really are competing with face-to-face time among friends and family. Over to text-based communication, more than 30 million messages are shared on Facebook at any given minute of the day, and more than 40 billion iMessages are sent every single day. With all of that said, it's safe to say that apps have fundamentally changed the way we communicate with friends and family, leaving no disconnect whatsoever. No matter how far you may be from one another, you'll be able to know exactly what's going on at any given moment. Productivity’s Exploding at WorkAs we know, mobile apps offer a whole lot more than games, and as a result, workplaces are delving right into the mobile app world for work. A vast majority of workplace activities can be conducted entirely away from the workplace and on mobile. Whether it's having a team member deployed on a task - with all of the latest information - or having direct access to real-time employee health data, apps are providing more essential information than ever before. In the late 2010s, businesses have become so heavily reliant on mobile applications to assist workflows, that a study from Accenture revealed that executives viewed apps as an integral part of their business workflows. Today, if you ever need to get into contact with one team member at work, or the entire office, you can do so at the tap of a button - wherever you are in the world. Transport is a Tap AwayIt’s hard to remember a time before Uber. And that’s all thanks to mobile apps being so easy to use and ubiquitous. Ask anyone in the street how they’d prefer to hail a ride, and they’ll tell you immediately - 'with Uber.' There’s no more reason to wait in line for a taxi or wander empty streets desperately waiting to see a taxi cab drive by, all we need to do is reserve a ride on our apps and be done with it. As a result, this has changed the way we go out to town, visit friends and family and even go to work. There’s no panic to a taxi stand, and there are no pre-booking dramas which means more time spent doing what we intended to do, and less time wasted on hailing a ride. Store Queues are OverWe can all agree that waiting in long lines for our morning coffee, bagel or toasted sandwich is hell, especially if we’re trying to get to work. So, of course, there are apps like Hey You changing that for the better. Throughout someone's life, they spend a staggering six months simply standing in line waiting for something! Thankfully the rise of apps means there’s no reason to stand waiting in line for foods and drinks. Opening an app like Hey You gives you the power to place your order ahead of time, pay for it and just walk into the cafe or restaurant and walk right back out again. Like Uber, this is another unrivalled timesaver that lets us move on with our day without any slowdown or interruption. That means more free time to focus on things we’d like to do, and more time getting work done. Booking Accomodation is an AfterthoughtAs the app economy booms, investor homeowners and even owner-occupiers are turning to mobile applications to rent out their homes, competing viciously with hotel chains - and mobile users are the winners. If you’ve ever visited a city, either in Australia or overseas, and not bothered to spend hours booking hotels, then that's thanks to apps like Airbnb changing your thought process entirely. All we need to do today is head over to our phones, scroll through a few accommodation options and book. It’s as quick and straightforward as that. In fact, Airbnb's growth has snowballed and changed the lives of more than 400 million people since its launch a decade ago, and it even works the same in 191 countries, meaning booking accommodation across more than half of the planet is simple and able to be completed on mobile!
