6 Ideas to Treat Mum This Mother's Day |
Posted: March 29, 2018 |
After putting up with us through the toddler and teenage tantrums, our mums deserve the world but we can’t always afford to give it to them. With Mother’s Day coming up (Sunday 13th May to be exact), it’s time to start thinking of ways you treat one of the most special ladies in your life. Here are some ideas of ways you can show her that you care (and secure your spot as the favourite child!).
1. Cook A Lavish Meal How many nights did your mum spend cooking for you or preparing your school lunches or making meals that suited everyone in the family’s picky tastes? Now it’s your chance to repay the favour. Try your hand at cooking her a three-course meal, complete with all her favourite dishes. If you’re not the world’s greatest chef you could enlist a sibling or a friend to help you out but make sure not to let your mum help you! She should get to enjoy the experience of someone else doing the work (that means no help cleaning up either!). Set the mood with some flowers, nice candles and some of her favourite tunes!
2. Take Her To High Tea There’s no better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than a spot of a high tea in the afternoon. Now a luxurious occasion, high tea was actually a concept created by the working class in England who couldn’t afford to have two main meals and so combined afternoon tea with their evening meal but serving meats, bread and cakes with a hot cup of tea towards the end of the day. Now in its modern form, it can usually be enjoyed morning or afternoon and features an array of delectable sweet treats, finger sandwiches, savoury pastries and of course scones with jam and cream. Many hotels in Sydney offer high tea, which means you can pick a venue with an amazing view of the harbour and indulge in some champagne with your treats. We’re sure Mum deserves it!
3. Organise A Massage For Her No matter how old their kids are, mums are usually always working hard and looking after others before taking care of themselves. This is why a thoughtful gift can be to treat mum to a pampering session so she can relax, de-stress and have some much-needed me-time. Getting her a voucher for a massage or organising a massage session for her is one to make her feel pampered. A voucher gives mum control over choosing when she’s going to have a massage and potentially saving it till she really needs it. If you want the element of surprise, you can book in a massage for her in the privacy of her own home so she doesn’t even need to drive anywhere.
4. Sign Her Up For An Aerial Yoga Course Learning a new skill together is always a great way to bond with your mum. Signing up for a course means the two of you can really have some quality time together once a week, even if you both have busy schedules. Aerial yoga is a unique form of yoga where you are suspended in a sling-like hammock, which is attached to the ceiling and supports your full body weight. You then manoeuvre the fabric and hold poses or perform tricks inside it, all while in the air. It’s not only a great workout, it’s also a lot of fun and one way that you and mum can keep fit together.
5. Put Together A Family Album In the digital age, with Instagram and Snapchat, people place less importance on the value of a physical photo. With everything online, the art of the album has somewhat disappeared. One way you can treat mum this Mother’s Day is to round up a whole lot of photos, new and old and put them together into an album. This is a chance to get all those photos Mum might have forgotten about printed. You can personalise the album as well, with stickers and little captions for each photo. It’s a gift that she can keep forever!
6. Treat Her To A Wine Subscription If Mum is partial to a glass of red (or white!) then a great gift idea is a wine subscription - a gift that keeps on giving. The idea with most wine subscriptions is that you let the company know your mum’s tastes and every month she’ll receive a new selection of wines to try. She’ll get wine automatically delivered to her door and the chance to sample wines from all different regions. And maybe if you’re lucky, she’ll share some with you!
